Xie Qingling (谢清玲) is a retired worker of the Tai’an City fertilizer plant in Tai’an, Shandong Province, and a Falun Gong practitioner. Born in 1956, she was 64 years old at the time of her detention in November 2020.
On the morning of November 24, 2020, Xie Qingling and fellow practitioners, including Gao Fangqiang (高方强), were returning from distributing New Year calendars in Liangzhuang Township when their vehicle was intercepted by police; they were taken to the Wenkou police station in Daiyue District and their homes were searched. Xie Qingling and Gao Fangqiang were held at the Tai’an City detention center.
That evening, officers entered Xie Qingling’s home, detained her husband Li Cunguo (李存国, retired worker), and seized Falun Gong books, a computer, a printer, and informational materials.
According to the Chinese Human Rights Defenders Prisoners of Conscience database, Xie Qingling was sentenced to seven years in prison with a 20,000-yuan fine; the sentence was reported in January 2022. She and Gao Fangqiang appealed to the Tai’an Intermediate Court, which upheld the original verdicts. Xie Qingling was transferred to Shandong Provincial Women’s Prison to serve her sentence. Her listed release date is November 23, 2027. The formal charge is not publicly documented.
