Zhang Bing (张兵) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Shanxi Province. He previously served a two-year prison sentence for distributing Falun Gong materials.
In 2023, Zhang posted a song created by Falun Gong practitioners in a WeChat group. On April 20, 2023, he was arrested by police in Taiyuan, Shanxi — part of a case in which Li Hongtao (黎洪涛), a practitioner originally from Shijiazhuang, Hebei, was also detained after posting in the same online circles. Zhang was held in the Taiyuan detention center and then prosecuted.
In September 2024, Zhang Bing and Li Hongtao were each sentenced to three years and six months in prison. Both were transferred to Jinzhong Prison in Shanxi Province; Zhang was held in the prison’s 10th ward. Li Hongtao appealed; the appeal was denied. The specific criminal charge against Zhang was not stated in the available records.
Zhang was listed among mainland China’s fixed-term political prisoners as of August 31, 2026, in the 3.5-year sentence group. His recorded sentence term ends in October 2026; whether he has been released has not been independently confirmed.
