Zhang Shuxiang (张淑香) — Person Profile

Zhang Shuxiang (张淑香) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province, who was sentenced to one year in prison by the Zhaoyuan City Court in late December 2025. She is held at the Shandong Provincial Women’s Prison. The Rights Defense Network (维权网) monthly political-prisoners roster (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) lists her among its “sentenced to 2 years or less” group. Reporting on her case comes from Falun Gong-community media and rights-monitoring sources; no court judgment or state-media account has been found.

Background

Zhang Shuxiang, born in 1949, is a woman from Zhaoyuan City (Yantai), Shandong Province, according to the CHRD (Chinese Human Rights Defenders) Prisoners of Conscience database and a 2016 Minghui.org case article. She began practicing Falun Gong in the 1990s, per the 2016 article, which describes a long history of detention: by that article’s account, she had been arrested some fifteen times, detained eight times, sent toward labor camps three times (turned away on health grounds), sentenced to four years in prison in the mid-2000s, and held in “brainwashing” sessions. In May 2015 she filed a criminal complaint against former leader Jiang Zemin over the persecution, the article says. (These claims are attributed to the reporting outlet; no independent judicial record has been located.)

The current case

  • August 14, 2024 — Zhang was arrested at a market in Zhaoyuan while telling people about Falun Gong, by police of the Linglong branch of the Zhaoyuan City Public Security Bureau. Because she had multiple fractures, the Yantai detention center refused to admit her, and she was placed under “residential surveillance.”
  • December 17, 2025 — The Zhaoyuan City Court tried her case; she could not attend in person because of her poor health.
  • Late December 2025 — The court sentenced her to one year in prison and fined her 6,000 yuan; the charge is not publicly known.
  • Mid-January 2026 — Police took the bedridden 77-year-old from her home to the Yantai detention center under the pretext of a medical examination, then transferred her to the Shandong Provincial Women’s Prison to serve her sentence. Her term runs to January 2027.

Current status

Zhang Shuxiang is reported in custody at the Shandong Provincial Women’s Prison, serving a one-year term ending January 2027. The latest dated source (Issue 131, August 31, 2026) lists her in its two-years-or-less sentence group.

A note on sources

No court judgment, prosecution document, or state-media report on this case has been located. The factual record here comes from: the CHRD Prisoners of Conscience database record for 张淑香 (single exact hit, entered April 13, 2026); a 2016 Minghui.org case article on her earlier persecution and her 2015 complaint against Jiang Zemin; and the Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 monthly roster (August 31, 2026). Minghui.org is a Falun Gong-community news outlet; its claims about ill-treatment are recorded here as reported, not as independently verified judicial findings.
