Timeline of reported events
- February 23, 2023 — Zhao Hongmei and another Falun Gong practitioner distributed informational materials and posted banners in the Qinhuangdao Development Zone; a member of the public reported them, and police placed Zhao under video surveillance.
- March 8, 2023 — Zhao was detained at her father’s home (Guoxing Lanhaiwan complex, Qinhuangdao) by national-security police of the Qinhuangdao Kaifaqu public security branch. Her computer, printer, phone, and printed materials were seized. She was taken to the Qinhuangdao Detention Center.
- October 2024 — A local court sentenced Zhao to four years in prison and a 5,000-yuan fine; she was transferred to the Hebei Provincial Women’s Prison. Her sentence ends March 7, 2027.
