Zhao Qingping / 赵庆平
Zhao Qingping (赵庆平) is a woman from Heilongjiang Province who practices Falun Gong. Born in 1972, she is from Wuchang City, Harbin, and worked for the Harbin Huayu Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. before her detention, according to the Chinese Human Rights Defenders’ Prisoners of Conscience database and a Minghui.org case report. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1997, stopped after the practice was banned in 1999, and resumed in 2003, the Minghui report states.
On the evening of 19 July 2022, police took Zhao Qingping and her mother-in-law from their home in Minfu Village, Chonghe Town, Wuchang City, and searched the home, according to the Minghui report. Her mother-in-law was released the same night. The Wuchang City Procuratorate subsequently approved her arrest.
On 13 March 2023, the Acheng District Court in Harbin tried her case; her lawyer pleaded not guilty, arguing that practicing Falun Gong is legal in China, the Minghui report states. In April 2023, the court sentenced her to six years in prison and imposed a fine of 20,000 yuan. According to the same report, she decided to appeal.
