Zhao Yajing / 赵雅静
Zhao Yajing (赵雅静), born in 1993, is a woman from Donggaobao village, Dongguan town, Qixian county, Jinzhong city, Shanxi province. She is documented as a prisoner of conscience serving a two-year-and-nine-month sentence for “picking quarrels and provoking troubles” (寻衅滋事罪).
According to monitoring organizations, Zhao developed symptoms of acute myeloid leukemia after receiving two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in 2021, and her family’s subsequent petitions for medical assistance and compensation went unanswered. The family reports that she submitted materials showing she had no major medical history or family history of the disease before vaccination, and that local health authorities classified her case as coincidental (偶合) — a finding the family rejects. On the evening of November 19, 2024, while in Beijing for medical treatment, Zhao was summoned by the Yangqiao police station in Fengtai district after chatting in a WeChat group, then handed back to local custody. She was criminally detained on November 21, 2024, formally arrested on February 27, 2025 on approval by the Qixian procuratorate, and tried on April 11, 2025 at the Qixian People’s Court. The court sentenced her to two years and nine months’ imprisonment, with the term ending August 20, 2027. Her husband, Wang Hongyi, has publicly appealed for her to receive proper medical treatment in detention.
Zhao was held at the Jinzhong city detention center and, on September 28, 2025, was transferred to the Taiyuan No. 3 Prison in Shanxi province to serve her sentence. As of the August 31, 2026 monthly report by the monitoring group 维权网, she was listed among prisoners reported to be currently in custody.
