Hao Shuping (郝淑萍) — Person Profile
Hao Shuping (郝淑萍)
Hao Shuping, born in 1954, is a retired worker from Fengrun District, Tangshan City, Hebei Province. She worked at the high-bag workshop of the Tangshan Locomotive Factory before retiring. She began practicing Falun Gong in May 1994.
Since the 1999 ban on Falun Gong, Hao has been detained, beaten, and imprisoned for her faith, according to reports by Minghui, a Falun Gong-affiliated news site that documents such cases. On September 6, 2001, she was reported for distributing Falun Gong materials and detained at the Tangshan No.1 Detention Center, where she was subjected to forced labor and beatings. On October 28, 2014, she was seized along with other practitioners at Dangyu market in Zunhua after going to the state security unit to demand the release of fellow practitioners; she was held for 15 days. She was harassed and briefly detained again in 2024 — on April 5 at a market in Yutian County’s Liangjiadian Town (released the same day) and on September 25 in Luanzhou District’s Wangdianzi Town.
On July 8, 2025, Hao was arrested at a market in Fanzhuang Village, Hongqiao Town, Yutian County, while speaking to members of the public about Falun Gong. She was taken to the Tangshan City No.1 Detention Center the same afternoon. Her arrest was formally approved on July 20, 2025, and her case was transferred to the Zunhua City Procuratorate. The Zunhua City Court tried her on October 29, 2025, and sentenced her to three years and six months in prison; the verdict was dated December 12, 2025. She has appealed the sentence. A prisoner database maintained by the Chinese Human Rights Defenders network records her term as ending on January 7, 2029.
As of the latest dated report (December 2025), Hao Shuping remained in custody at the Tangshan City No.1 Detention Center pending her appeal. She is listed as a currently serving political prisoner.
Note: a different Falun Gong practitioner of the same name, 郝淑萍, from Yongji County in Jilin Province, has a separate documented history ending in 2007 and is not the person profiled here.
