Xu Jianchao (许建超)

Xu Jianchao (许建超) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Taikang County in Zhoukou City, Henan Province, who was sentenced to five years in prison in October 2023, according to the Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) prisoners-of-conscience database and the Minghui website’s victim archive. The Rights Defense Network’s monthly report on mainland political prisoners, dated August 31, 2026, lists Xu Jianchao among persons in custody with a five-year sentence.

The CHRD record states that Xu Jianchao was arrested on March 29, 2023 for promoting Falun Gong and was taken to the Taikang County detention center, where he was criminally detained, formally arrested, and prosecuted. It says he was subjected to torture while in the detention center and lost a great deal of weight. On October 12, 2023, the record says, he was secretly sentenced to five years in prison; the specific charge is listed as unknown. He was transferred to the Xinmi Prison in Zhengzhou (郑州新密监狱), where he is held in the ninth ward under second-level “strict management,” with his term ending March 28, 2028, according to the CHRD record.

Minghui’s victim profile for Xu Jianchao corroborates the outline: it identifies him as a male Falun Gong practitioner from Taikang County, Zhoukou, Henan; states he was seized by plainclothes state-security police on March 29, 2023 for speaking about Falun Gong and taken to the Taikang County detention center; says he was tortured there and at one point was given only one to two meals a day for 70 days, leaving him severely emaciated; and confirms the secret five-year sentence on October 12, 2023 and his transfer to the ninth ward of Xinmi Prison in Zhengzhou under second-level “strict management.”

The Minghui profile, updated July 11, 2025, further reports that Xu Jianchao resisted “transformation” (refusing to write the three statements renouncing his belief), and alleges that prison guards held him down to take his blood pressure by force and then forcibly administered unidentified drugs, after which the right side of his body was in pain; it says his family questioned the prison authorities about this. The profile also lists related Minghui reporting on the case and on the ninth ward of Xinmi Prison.
