Yang Yunjie (杨云杰) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Changchun, Jilin Province, who was detained in 2022 and sentenced to one and a half years in prison for her faith.
Background
Yang was born in 1968. She is originally from Tahe County in the Daxing'anling region and lived in Changchun. According to reports from Falun Gong monitoring sources, she had previously faced repeated harassment and detention, including two years of forced labor and time in a detention facility described as a "brainwashing" center.
Detention and sentencing
On June 13, 2022, plainclothes officers from the Chongqing Road police station detained Yang outside her home; she was released on June 15 after her family reported her missing. On July 4, 2022, she was detained again — police said she had been promoting Falun Gong outside the No. 1 Hospital of Jilin University — and taken to the Changchun No. 4 Detention Center.
On November 21, 2022, the Kuancheng District Court held a hearing in her case at the detention center; family members were not permitted to attend. In January 2023, her family was informed she had been sentenced to one and a half years in prison. The specific charge of record was not reported. She appealed; after the appeal was denied, she was transferred to the Jilin Province Women's Prison on August 11, 2023.
Current status
According to a February 2024 report, Yang had returned home before that year's Chinese New Year. A separate prisoner roster dated August 31, 2026, still listed her as in custody; that discrepancy has not been resolved, and her current status cannot be confirmed from available sources.
