Background
Du Shuhui (杜淑惠), born in 1950, is a resident of Mian County in Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, and a retired accountant who previously worked for the Mian County urban-construction bureau. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1996.
Detention and sentencing
According to the Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) Prisoners of Conscience database, she was detained at her home on December 7, 2023. On January 10, 2025, the Mian County Court sentenced her to four years in prison with a 6,000-yuan fine. She is held at the Hanzhong City Hantai District Detention Center, and her stated release date is December 6, 2027. The criminal charge under which she was convicted has not been reported.
Earlier imprisonment
This is not Du’s first imprisonment. The database reports that after July 1999 she was detained repeatedly at labor camps, detention centers, and prisons, and that in 2013 the Mian County Court sentenced her to eight years in prison. The earlier judgments have not been independently reviewed.
Current status
The Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 monthly in-custody report (August 31, 2026) lists Du Shuhui among political prisoners serving four-year sentences who were in custody at that time. The CHRD record for her was last updated on January 16, 2026.
Identity note: Du Shuhui (杜淑惠) is not Yu Shuhui (余树惠) — a 1965-born Chongqing Falun Gong practitioner serving a 3.5-year sentence. The two share a given-name sound but have different surnames (杜 vs 余) and are different people.
