Classification: Christian house-church co-worker from Yaodu District, Linfen, Shanxi; sentenced in June 2025 to four years and ten months in prison in the Golden Lampstand Church case; reported in custody at Yuci Prison with a term running to about January 2030.
Background
Feng Junying (冯俊英), born on August 4, 1957, is from Guojiazhuang in Linfen’s Yaodu District, Shanxi Province. She joined the Linfen Golden Lampstand Church, an unregistered house church, as an early member in 1997. From 2005 she managed the church’s funds, and in 2017 she was appointed head of the church’s second pastoral district, overseeing six areas, while continuing her fund-management role. The church has long refused to join the state-controlled Three-Self church system.
Detention and trial
On August 7, 2021, police in Yaodu District detained a group of Golden Lampstand Church leaders and co-workers, including Feng, on suspicion of fraud. She was released on bail on November 25, 2021, while others were formally arrested the following month; the case was transferred to the Linfen City Procuratorate in December 2021. Feng remained on bail and residential surveillance through a series of renewals into 2024.
On June 20, 2025, the church members were sentenced: Feng received four years and ten months in prison with a 40,000-yuan fine on charges of “fraud,” according to Bitter Winter, an independent media outlet covering religious freedom. (Church in Chains gives June 17 for the sentencing session; the distinction is preserved as session versus verdict announcement.) The church’s lawyers have maintained that the tithes and offerings collected by the church were voluntary religious donations, not fraud. On August 15, 2025, the Linfen Intermediate People’s Court upheld the verdicts on appeal, and Feng was taken back into custody. She is held at Yuci Prison, with a stated sentence end around January 2030. The detail that lawyers were excluded from a detention-center sentencing session is reported only in the CHRD record.
The case
The Golden Lampstand Church, founded by Pastor Wang Xiaoguang and Preacher Yang Rongli, grew to a congregation reported at more than 50,000 members before the government demolished its worship site in 2018. The 2021 detentions and 2025 sentences were brought under fraud charges — charges that religious-freedom advocates say have been used to criminalize the voluntary donations of unregistered churches. Ten church workers were sentenced in June 2025 to terms ranging from one year and ten months (suspended) to nine years and two months.
Current status
Per the CHRD record and the August 2025 appeal outcome, Feng is serving her sentence at Yuci Prison; the sentence runs to about January 2030. (Last confirmed report: August 2025.)
Identity note: This Feng Junying (冯俊英) is not the “Feng Junying” of the Fushun pension-withholding case reported around 2000–2002 — an administrative dispute with male pronouns, not an imprisonment case. The two are different people.
