This archive preserves the media and documentary record on the case of Zhong Yimei (钟以美), born January 20, 1980, a Falun Gong practitioner and former teacher from Bijie City, Guizhou Province, reported to be serving a seven-year sentence (term to June 2027).
Case narrative preserved from cited sources
Zhong became a practitioner in her student years. As a teacher at the Bijie City Vocational Higher Secondary School, she was transferred from her post and placed under surveillance after telling colleagues about Falun Gong. In January 2011 she was arrested at her school by “610” police, tried on May 31, 2011 by the Bijie City court, and sentenced in September 2011 to five years (appeal upheld). She was imprisoned on November 8, 2011 at the Guizhou No. 1 Women’s Prison, where she reports being tortured. Her father died the day after she was taken into prison.
On June 25, 2020 she was again arrested by Qixingguan public security police and her home searched. After about three years in custody she was sentenced by a local court to seven years. Her exact charge and current detention location have not been publicly reported.
