Han Wei (韩伟)

Han Wei (韩伟), a Falun Gong practitioner from Jidong County, Heilongjiang Province, was sentenced to one year and three months in prison by the Chongchuan District Court of Nantong City, Jiangsu Province, on March 26, 2026, in a cross-province case. A native of Harbin, he was taken into custody by Nantong City’s Tongzhou District police on March 28, 2024, brought to Nantong, and placed in the Nantong City Detention Center before being released on bail on April 30, 2024.

According to Minghui’s reporting, the case began with online monitoring of WeChat payment activity tied to a phone card Han had recharged through his brother Han Chao’s mobile phone; the phone card was used to send messages about Falun Gong. Han Chao, who is not described as a Falun Gong practitioner, was taken to Nantong earlier that month and later had his bail conditions lifted; Han Wei’s case was pursued separately. The case-origin account is Minghui’s reporting and is presented as such.

In mid-2025 the Nantong police submitted his case to the Chongchuan District Procuratorate. On July 12, 2025, the Chongchuan District Court notified Han to collect the indictment, issued by prosecutor Zhang Yong. On the morning of August 1, 2025, after Jidong County’s Dongfeng police station ordered Han to come in, Nantong Tongzhou police re-arrested him, executing a July 25, 2025 custody order issued by the Chongchuan District Court (judge Sun Taiyong). He was returned to the Nantong City Detention Center.

On March 26, 2026, the Chongchuan District Court sentenced Han Wei to one year and three months. He appealed to the Nantong City Intermediate Court. The charge is not stated in the available sources; the Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) prisoner-database record lists the charge as unknown.

Not the same person

This profile is NOT about: (1) the Harbin-based Han Wei, husband of Lü Shiyu, detained in 2001 and 2016 (documented on the Minghui library victim page i43100 — that page concerns a different person); (2) the female doctor Han Wei detained in Guizhou in 2004; (3) the Taiwan/Hong Kong writer of the same name. Those are separate people and must not be confused with the Jidong/Nantong case documented here.
