Identity
Jiang Yanping (姜艳萍), born 1966, is a resident of the Zhenbei community in Shulan City, Jilin Province, and a practitioner of Falun Gong. According to records published by the Chinese Human Rights Defenders prisoner-of-conscience database, she was detained on March 16, 2023, and subsequently sentenced to five years in prison.
Detention
On the afternoon of March 16, 2023, Jiang Yanping was seized by police while putting up Falun Gong slogans in Shulan City; her home was searched. The same day, fellow practitioner Zhao Changyan went to Jiang’s home and walked into the ongoing police operation, and was also detained. Both were placed under criminal detention, had their arrests approved, and were indicted; they were held at the Jilin Detention Center. A third practitioner, Liu Minjie, was swept up in the same case. According to Minghui, a Falun Gong-affiliated outlet that reported the case, Jiang staged a hunger strike to protest her detention.
Trial and sentencing
Jiang Yanping and Zhao Changyan were tried at the Shulan City Court on July 27, 2023, with a second hearing on October 26, 2023. In February 2024 it was reported that Jiang Yanping had been sentenced to five years in prison and Zhao Changyan to three years and six months. The Chinese Human Rights Defenders database records her term as running to March 15, 2028. The formal charge has not been publicly named in available records.
Current status
Jiang Yanping was listed as in custody in the Rights Defense Network’s mainland-China political-prisoner monthly report dated August 31, 2026. Her current detention facility is not publicly confirmed.
Name note
Jiang Yanping (姜艳萍) should not be confused with Jiang Yongqin (姜永芹), a different Jilin Falun Gong practitioner sentenced to five years who died in custody on January 29, 2026, nor with Jiang Yanping (蒋艳萍), a Hunan corruption convict whose surname uses a different Chinese character (蒋).
