李春丰 (Li Chunfeng) — Political Prisoner Profile

Who this record covers

李春丰 (Li Chunfeng), a man in his fifties, is a resident of Gongzhuangzi village in Huangzhuang Township, Sanhe city, Langfang, Hebei province, and a Falun Gong practitioner. In November 2024 he was sentenced to 3 years and 3 months’ imprisonment by the Sanhe City Court, with a sentence term ending July 9, 2027. The charge is not stated in the available sources.

Background

According to the advocacy outlet 明慧网 (Minghui), which first reported the case, Li and his wife began practicing Falun Gong in the winter of 1998. After the 1999 crackdown, he was repeatedly taken to the township government, the detention center, and indoctrination (“brainwashing”) sessions, and his home was frequently harassed. The same report records earlier incidents: on March 3, 2000, Li was among practitioners seized by plainclothes officers near Tiananmen after traveling to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong; on April 24, 2001, township and police officers again seized Li and his wife; on August 5, 2011, he was taken to a Langfang indoctrination session; and in 2019 and 2021 his family was subjected to home harassment and pressure to renounce the practice. These accounts come from Minghui, a Falun Gong-affiliated outlet, and are reported as such.

Detention and conviction

On July 3, 2023, officers from the Sanhe City Public Security Bureau’s domestic-security unit and the Huangzhuang Township police station seized Li and his wife from their home; Li was detained for 10 days on the stated ground that he had forwarded a short video on a network platform. On April 10, 2024, police seized Li again from his home, telling the family he would be held long-term. He was placed under criminal detention and held in the Sanhe City Detention Center, then arrested and prosecuted. In November 2024, the Sanhe City Court sentenced him to 3 years and 3 months’ imprisonment. A prisoners-of-conscience database record independently gives the same sentence (刑期 3年3个月) and a release date of July 9, 2027, and places him at the Sanhe City Detention Center.

Recorded status

The Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 monthly report lists 李春丰 in its sentenced-to-3-years-3-months group as in custody as of August 31, 2026. The sentence term ends July 9, 2027. This record does not assert his current place of detention beyond the latest dated evidence, and does not state the charge, which is not given in the sources.

Identification method

The Issue 131 roster’s Chinese edition lists 李春丰 in its sentenced-to-3-years-3-months group. A record in a prisoners-of-conscience database gives the same Chinese characters with the romanization “Li Chunfeng,” a Sanhe, Hebei Falun Gong practitioner, seized April 10, 2024, sentenced to 3 years and 3 months with a term ending July 9, 2027, held at the Sanhe City Detention Center. A December 2024 case report in 明慧网 gives the same village, the same April 10, 2024 seizure, the same detention center, and the same 3-year-3-month November 2024 sentence by the Sanhe City Court. Of 4,372 records in the database, exactly one matches this name.
