Liu Yongying (刘永英)
Liu Yongying (刘永英), born in 1963, is a resident of Nanchang in Jiangxi Province. Before her dismissal she worked as a senior lecturer at the Jiangxi Civil Affairs School (江西省民政学校). She began practicing Falun Gong in 1996.
Minghui, a news outlet run by Falun Gong practitioners, has documented her case across more than two decades. According to its reporting, she was sent to one year of re-education through labor in early 2000, three years in 2005, and a two-year prison term after being detained in April 2018 and held through the Xihu District court process. The same reporting says she was fired from her school and lost access to her pension.
On August 21, 2024, officers from the Qingshanhu branch of the Nanchang Public Security Bureau and railway police raided her home and took her away. She was first held at the Nanchang No. 2 Detention Center, then formally arrested and indicted. On June 17, 2025, the Xihu District People’s Court in Nanchang heard her case; according to Minghui, she and her lawyer pleaded not guilty, and the court did not issue a verdict that day. On July 15, 2025, the court sentenced her to three years and three months in prison with a fine of 10,000 yuan. The specific charge and the facility where she is serving the sentence have not been independently verified.
As of the latest dated evidence available, she is serving the three-year-three-month term imposed July 15, 2025. Her current place of detention is unverified, and the reported release date of November 20, 2027 is not independently verified.
Source caveat: the Minghui case page contains an internal inconsistency about the 2018–2020 term: one line mentions a December 2019 sentencing reference of four years (四年), while the surrounding chronology — 2018 detention, a first-instance two-year term, appellate confirmation in January 2020, release on April 3, 2020 — describes a two-year term. This contradiction is unresolved; the facts of the 2025 case (3 years 3 months, July 15, 2025) are consistent throughout the reporting and anchor this profile. Detailed accounts of her treatment in earlier detentions come only from Falun Gong-affiliated reporting and have not been independently corroborated.
