Liu Yulian (刘玉莲), born in June 1949, lives in Panpengdian Village, Bachalu Township, in Linqing City, Shandong Province. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1998, and her husband Pan Dongsheng also took up the practice.
According to Minghui, a news outlet run by Falun Gong practitioners, Liu and her husband were repeatedly targeted after 1999. She traveled to Beijing to petition for the practice in 2001 and was detained on her return. Police raided her home in May 2022, again in April 2024, and in November 2025 officers took her to the Linqing City Procuratorate to press her thumbprint onto case documents.
On May 12, 2026, the 77-year-old Liu was on her way to work in the fields when officers from the Linqing Domestic Security Office and the Bachalu Police Station seized her and took her to the Linqing Detention Center. When her family asked about her case, police would only say she had been sentenced to three years, without identifying the court, the charge, or any trial. Around May 25 — about thirteen days after she was taken — she was transferred to the Shandong Provincial Women’s Prison in Jinan. According to the CHRD Prisoners of Conscience database entry on her, her stated release date is May 11, 2029.
Because the judicial steps between her detention and her imprisonment are not publicly documented — no known court record, charge sheet, or hearing — this account follows the reporting of the Falun Gong-affiliated outlets that documented it, and the legal particulars remain unverified.
As of October 2026 she is reported to be serving the three-year term at the Shandong Provincial Women’s Prison. Her current status is unverified beyond these reports.
