Source chronology
April 1998 — Practice begins. Reporting states Liu Yuqin began practicing Falun Gong in April 1998, following years of health problems.
April 15, 2009 — First documented detention. Liu is detained at her school office by Qingyang and Qingcheng County officers, interrogated overnight, and held at the Huan County and Qingcheng County detention centers.
2009–2010 — First sentence. Liu is sentenced to three years; on May 18, 2010 she is transferred to Gansu Provincial Women’s Prison. She is dismissed from her teaching post in 2010.
September 19, 2023 — The Gaolou Township arrest. Liu is reported to police while distributing Falun Gong materials in Gaolou Township; Heshui County officers detain her (and her husband, released the same evening) at her Gaolou home, search the residence, and seize practitioner materials and devices. She is taken to Ning County Detention Center the next day.
January 11, 2024 — Trial. Zhenyuan County Court staff try her at Ning County; her lawyer enters a not-guilty defense, and Liu states in court that she is not guilty.
2024 — Four-year sentence reported. It is reported that Liu Yuqin has been sentenced to four years in prison, charge undisclosed, with the term running through September 18, 2027.
