Mao Yanping (毛艳萍)
Mao Yanping (毛艳萍) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Xupu County, Huaihua City, Hunan Province.
According to a prisoners-of-conscience case record compiled by Chinese human-rights monitors, Mao was seized on February 27, 2025 by police of the Xupu County Public Security Bureau, then held in the Huaihua City Detention Center. Following criminal detention, formal arrest, and prosecution, she was sentenced on May 7, 2025 by the Yuanling County People’s Court of Hunan to three years in prison; her recorded term ends on February 26, 2028. The specific criminal charge is not identified in the available records.
Mao has been detained and harassed repeatedly for her practice of Falun Gong over the years. Minghui’s case archive records detentions of Mao Yanping alongside fellow Xupu practitioner Yang Lanying (杨兰英) in May 2016 (when the two were seized in Xupu’s Yinhu Township and taken to the Shuizhong police station, then the county detention center); a May 2020 home search and 15-day detention; a late-2020 “zero-out” pressure campaign targeting local practitioners; and an April 24, 2024 operation in which Xupu county police and the local 610 office seized seven practitioners including Mao, who was sent to the Huaihua City Detention Center the following day.
The same archive records that on May 7, 2025, the Yuanling County Court sentenced Mao Yanping together with Yang Lanying and Wang Juying (王菊英) — Yang received three and a half years. Mao’s name appears in these records under several variant spellings (毛滟萍, 毛燕苹, 毛燕平, 毛艳萍); all describe the same Xupu practitioner.
Her current place of detention has not been specified in the publicly available records. She is counted among the in-custody political and conscience prisoners documented in the Rights Defense Network’s August 2026 monthly report, listed in the three-year sentence group. The dated source records for this case are preserved in the Media and Documentation Archive.
