Mei Guangqin (梅广芹) — Political Prisoner Profile

Mei Guangqin (梅广芹)

Mei Guangqin (梅广芹) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Mulan County, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, born in the 1950s.

According to a prisoners-of-conscience case record and a November 2025 Minghui case report, Mei was seized from her home on the night of April 2, 2025, by police of the Harbin Public Security Bureau and the Mulan County domestic-security squad, and taken to Harbin for detention. On October 29, 2025, the Yilan County People’s Court of Harbin sentenced her to three years and six months in prison; her recorded term ends on October 1, 2028. The specific criminal charge and her current place of detention are not identified in the available records.

Mei’s younger sister, Mei Guangli (梅广丽), is also a Falun Gong practitioner from Mulan County, with her own separate case record. The two sisters were detained together in late June 2022 at a Mulan County market for telling passersby about Falun Gong; after two days they were released. The sister was subsequently seized again in April 2023, sentenced to three and a half years, and is serving her sentence in Harbin Prison.

Minghui’s report further documents a two-decade history of detention of Mei Guangqin for her practice: detention by Mulan County police before November 2001; a January 2004 detention at the Mulan County No. 2 Detention Center after she was caught distributing materials there, followed by a hunger strike and release to her family; a June 2011 detention at a Mulan market with 15 days in the detention center; and an April 2022 home raid in which police seized a calendar and books and briefly detained both sisters.

She is counted among the in-custody political and conscience prisoners documented in the Rights Defense Network’s August 2026 monthly report, listed in the three-and-a-half-year sentence group alongside her sister.

Name and identity note: the Minghui report gives her name as 梅广芹, with the alternate spelling 梅广琴 in parentheses — treated as a spelling variant of the same person, not a separate individual. She has no connection to the unrelated child-trafficking case involving a person nicknamed “Aunt Mei” (梅姨); that is a different person.
