Mei Guangli (梅广丽) — Political Prisoner Profile

Mei Guangli (梅广丽)

Mei Guangli (梅广丽), born 1960, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Mulan County, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, serving a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence.

On April 13, 2023, officers from the Lidong police station of the Mulan County public security bureau entered her home and took her away. She was sent to the Harbin City Detention Center. About six months later she was sentenced to three years and six months in a proceeding whose details were not made public, and she was transferred to Harbin Prison to serve the term, which runs through October 11, 2026.

Her case is intertwined with that of her older sister, Mei Guangqin (梅广芹), also a Falun Gong practitioner from Mulan County. In late June 2022, the two sisters and a fellow practitioner, Hou Guofan, were detained by Lidong police station officers led by station chief Deng Lijun while speaking to people about Falun Gong at a community fair. All three were taken to the Mulan County police station for interrogation, where their fingerprints were taken and their voices recorded. After two days, Hou was released; the two sisters were taken toward detention in Harbin but were denied admission on health grounds and released. According to the case reports, the station chief threatened to continue pursuing their prosecution if they refused to renounce Falun Gong, and the sisters went into hiding before returning home and being arrested in separate actions — Mei Guangli on April 13, 2023, and her sister on April 2, 2025. Both sisters received three-and-a-half-year sentences in separate proceedings. The sister is a distinct person with her own case record — this profile covers only Mei Guangli.

Mei Guangli had previously been detained for her practice of Falun Gong: on April 22, 2002, she was taken by Mulan County police and served two years in the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Harbin; the case reports state she was hung up by the wrists for extended periods and afterward lost feeling in her hands.

Name and identity note: the name 梅广丽 is also spelled 梅广莉 in one of the case reports, which identifies both spellings as the same person — a spelling variant, not a separate individual. She has no connection to the unrelated child-trafficking case sometimes associated with the name “Aunt Mei” (梅姨, subject 谢家梅); that is a different person.

Sources and documentation: case details come from Minghui reports published November 22, 2025 (Chinese) and November 27, 2025 (English), and from the prisoner-of-conscience record of a Chinese human-rights monitoring database (entered December 15, 2025), which agree on the name, birth year, city, arrest dates, sentence, facility, and term. No international-media, government, or court-published reporting specific to this person was located. The sentence end date (October 11, 2026) is recorded; no release has been documented, and no release is asserted here. Mei Guangli — media and documentation archive
