Tian Liping (田丽平) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, born in 1962. She was sentenced to four years in prison in September 2024, and she filed an appeal.
On March 11, 2024, officers from the Heping District public security sub-bureau’s domestic-security unit and the Changbai police station took Tian from her home and searched the premises, according to a report by the Chinese-language outlet Minghui. Her arrest was approved on March 22, and prosecutors filed charges on August 16, the same account says. On September 9, the Hunnan District Court tried her case; on September 24 it sentenced her to four years and imposed a fine of 5,000 yuan. The CHRD political-prisoner database records the same four-year term with an end date of March 10, 2028, and lists the charge and her location as unknown.
Tian’s defenders filed an appeal on September 28, 2024, arguing that the first-instance trial had violated legal procedure, the Minghui report says, including claims that evidence was never properly examined in court and that some evidence had been obtained unlawfully. By late October the appeal had reached the Shenyang City Intermediate Court; no outcome of the appeal has been reported.
This was not Tian’s first encounter with the courts. In April 2010 she was detained by the Heping District sub-bureau and Hunhe Station police after speaking with residents about her beliefs, and the Heping District Court sentenced her to three years suspended for three years, according to the report.
Tian’s husband was detained alongside her on March 11 and later listed in case documents as handled in a separate case; detention staff twice declined to admit him because of serious health conditions, the report says, and police continued to pursue him and harass the family through the autumn. As of October 2026, no independent confirmation of Tian Liping’s current location or status was available, and nothing here should be read as confirming where she is now.
A note on identity: this profile concerns Tian Liping (田丽平) of Shenyang, Liaoning, born 1962. She is a different person from Tian Lili (田丽丽) of Fushun, Liaoning, born 1980, whose case is profiled separately. The two names, birth years, cities, and cases are distinct.
