Wang Huilin (王慧琳)

Born: 1956 · Home: Honghuayuan Village, Huanggezhuang Town, Fengnan District, Tangshan City, Hebei Province · Status: in custody (latest verified reporting, June 2024)

Wang Huilin (王慧琳) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Honghuayuan Village in Huanggezhuang Town, Fengnan District, Tangshan City, Hebei Province. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1996. After the practice was banned in 1999, she was repeatedly detained, sent to forced labor, and imprisoned over more than two decades, as documented in detailed case reporting.

1999–2001

In July 1999, after learning that a nationwide campaign against Falun Gong was about to be announced, she traveled to Beijing to appeal and was intercepted and returned to Tangshan. In 2001 she was taken to the Huanggezhuang Town police station, where, according to case reporting, she was beaten and deprived of food and water for four days, then held in the Fengnan District lockup and detention facilities for months of hard labor.

2008–2010

On July 29, 2008, police from the Huanggezhuang Town station raided her home and took her to the Tangshan City No. 1 Detention Center; she was sentenced to two years of forced labor and held at the Tangshan City No. 1 Forced Labor Camp, where she developed high blood pressure and heart problems and was released on parole after about four and a half months. On December 13, 2009, she was arrested again and taken to the Fengnan District Detention Center. The Fengnan District Court tried her on April 16, 2010 and sentenced her to four years in prison; she entered the Hebei Provincial Women’s Prison on September 15, 2010.

2020–2021

On August 12, 2020, she was detained during a large police sweep in Tangshan. The Fengnan detention facility declined to admit her because of her high blood pressure, and she was released under surveillance. Her arrest was formally approved on September 28, 2020. The Luannan County Court tried her on July 20, 2021; she fell seriously ill during the hearing. On August 10, 2021, court personnel held another hearing at her home, where she was bedridden. She was sentenced to four and a half years in prison with a 10,000-yuan fine (some reports cited in case reporting put the term at six and a half years; the fuller accounts give four and a half). She appealed to the Tangshan City Intermediate Court, which upheld the sentence in January 2022.

2022–2024

She was repeatedly harassed at home by Huanggezhuang police in 2022 and 2023, and her pension was suspended in August 2022. On April 23, 2024, Huanggezhuang Town police officers took her from her home to the Tangshan detention facility. On May 7, 2024, she was transferred to the Hebei Provincial Women’s Prison, where she was being held in division 14. Her reported sentence term runs through October 22, 2028.
