Chen Qiang (陈强) — born October 10, 1985; Nanyang City, Henan; consumer-rights defender (民间职业打假人); arrested October 19, 2018 on an extortion (敲诈勒索) charge; sentenced to 12 years by the Nanyang Wolong District Court on September 6, 2019; sentence upheld April 10, 2020 by the Nanyang Intermediate Court; term to October 18, 2030; held at Nanyang Prison.   • 2015. Sues the Nanyang Price Administration Office and China Mobile’s Nanyang branch for failing to act on his complaint reports; the parties settle. (CPPC 01009.)
  • 2016. With fellow rights defenders Wang Qing, Wang Jucai, and Han Meng, complains to market regulators about the Nanyang Yimei Shiguang café, saying it operated illegally with official backing; the shop is fined; Chen applies to the court for enforcement in 2018. (CPPC 01009.)

Conflicts and caveats

  • Identity equation graded PROBABLE. The roster supplies only the name and the 12-year sentence for its entry; the convergence of name 陈强 + identical 12-year term + in custody + Henan (from the case sources) supports the equation, but no roster-supplied anchor beyond name and sentence exists. The Person body carries the one-line caveat.
  • Charge framing. The official charge is 敲诈勒索 (extortion); the sources attribute the prosecution to retaliation for rights activism. The Person body reports the conviction and the sources’ characterization with attribution; it does not assert this site’s independent finding on the charge’s merits.
  • tenchu romanization error. “CHEN JIANG” is wrong; do not carry it onto the pages.
  • Photo. CPPC 01009 notes 尚無本人圖片 (no photo available). No portrait of Chen Qiang was located.

Evidentiary limits

No court judgment was independently located in a primary court record; case facts rest on CPPC’s compilation (with reproduced document images) and the CHRD/tenchu record (one evidence lineage). The ChinaAid and msguancha items were not re-opened by the researcher. No evidence of a sentence reduction or early release was located as of September 24, 2026; the roster (August 31, 2026) still reports him in custody.
