Source grading and provenance

  • ChinaAid (sources 1–3, 9): U.S.-based Christian persecution-monitoring NGO; primary collector of the family’s firsthand accounts. Detailed, date-specific, and internally consistent across four years of reporting; cross-confirmed by Bitter Winter and Church in Chains. Probable to verified for the legal timeline (raid, charges, verdicts, appeal, sentence dates — independently consistent); probable for prison-condition and health claims (family-sourced, single lineage, not independently verified by a third party).
  • Bitter Winter (sources 4–5): independent magazine covering religious liberty in China; case reconstruction consistent with ChinaAid down to specific dates. Graded probable.
  • Church in Chains Ireland (source 6): Irish Christian solidarity organization; sentencing details match; the house/car auction claim is single-source — graded unresolved, attributed as reported by the organization.
  • Rights Defense Network Issue 131 (source 10): activist-compiled roster; independent confirmation of 7-year sentence and current custody. Graded probable for sentence classification.
  • Prisoners of Conscience database (source 11): established prisoner database; corroborates custody and the September 1, 2027 release date. Graded probable.

Conflicts and evidentiary limitations

  • Wife’s name characters: ChinaAid gives 李琛慧; a Minghui-linked rendering seen in some contexts is 李陈慧. The profile uses 李琛慧 (ChinaAid). The character-form difference is minor but unresolved — recorded rather than chosen silently.
  • “Pastor” honorific: English-language sources call him “Pastor Chang Yuchun,” but no source establishes formal ordination or a registered pastoral office. This profile treats “Pastor” as an advocacy honorific, not a verified title.
  • Prison-condition and health claims (torture, beatings, protection money, CT scan never performed, serious illness in 2026): family- and advocacy-sourced; no independent medical or official record available. Published with attribution, never as unqualified fact.
  • House/car auction: single-source (Church in Chains Ireland); the profile attributes it explicitly.
