Sun Caiyan (孙彩艳), Falun Gong Practitioner Sentenced to Three Years Nine Months

Sun Caiyan (Chinese: 孙彩艳) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Dalian, Liaoning Province, currently serving a sentence of three years and nine months.

Sun’s husband and mother are also Falun Gong practitioners; according to the prisoner record compiled by the monitoring organization China Human Rights Defenders, her family has been broken apart by years of persecution. In 2014 she was sentenced to three years and three months and was subjected to brutal treatment while held in Liaoning Women’s Prison.

On the evening of May 12, 2024, Sun was arrested on the street by officers of Nansha Police Station in Dalian’s Shahekou District. She was subsequently held at the Dalian Yaojia Detention Center. In November 2024, it was learned that the Ganjingzi District Court in Dalian had sentenced her to three years and nine months. The charge against her and the facility where she is serving the sentence have not been made public; the sentence runs to February 12, 2028.

As of August 2026, she remains recorded in the Rights Defense Network’s mainland China political-prisoner roster among prisoners serving three-year-nine-month terms. Nothing has been verified about any change in her condition since then, and no such outcome should be assumed.
