A preserved Google Groups posting reproduces the issue masthead, date, serial number and contents list and identifies VIP Reference (Dacankao) as a publication defending human rights in the PRC since 1997. The posting includes a topic concerning Zhu Ruixiang and dissemination of 大参考.

Related prosecution evidence
Independent contemporary sources from CPJ, Human Rights Watch and the U.S. Department of State report that Zhu Ruixiang, a Shaoyang lawyer and former journalist, was prosecuted and sentenced to three years in 2001 for forwarding politically prohibited Internet material, including VIP Reference.
