Free China Movement Calls for Disclosure of Zhu Yufang’s Whereabouts and Legal Status

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 18, 2026

Free China Movement is concerned about the reported disappearance of Jiangxi rights defender Zhu Yufang after police took her away in Beijing.

According to a September 17 report by Civil Rights & Livelihood Watch (维权网), police took Zhu from a friend’s home in Beijing’s Fangshan District at approximately 3:00 a.m. Her location and legal status have not been publicly confirmed.

Free China Movement calls on the relevant authorities to:

  • disclose Zhu Yufang’s location and legal status immediately;
  • identify the responsible agency and the legal basis for any measure imposed;
  • ensure that she can communicate with her family and legal counsel; and
  • restore her liberty immediately if there is no lawful basis for holding her.

Free China Movement does not characterize Zhu as formally detained or arrested because no such legal status has been publicly confirmed. The case record will be updated when police notices, family or lawyer statements, court documents, or other verifiable evidence become available.
