Chen Anjun

Chen Anjun (陈岸君), born December 4, 1971, is a native of Leshan City, Sichuan Province, who taught wushu (martial arts) at the Tuqiao Police Academy in Chengdu’s Jinniu District before losing his post. A Falun Gong practitioner, he has spent most of the past two and a half decades in labor camps, brainwashing centers, and prisons. A rights-defense roster dated August 31, 2026 lists him among reported current-custody cases in its three-year-sentence group; a prisoner database last updated June 9, 2026 records “no further information” about him.

Chen graduated from the Sichuan Sports Institute’s wushu department, won provincial-level competitions, and taught at the Tuqiao Police Academy. In 2001 he traveled to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong; he was seized and sent to the Xinhua Labor Camp for a year and a half, and his academy post was taken from him. Released in late 2002, he was seized again in early 2003, staged a hunger strike, was hospitalized on March 31, 2003 at the Chadianzi brain-injury hospital in Jinniu, and was then moved to a brainwashing center in Pixian in mid-April 2003.

In June 2005, Chen and several others — including Li Ronglai, Wei Lang, and Lu Dongrong — intercepted Leshan television broadcasts to air Falun Gong content, triggering a city-wide manhunt. Chen evaded surveillance for months but was seized on December 12, 2005 at an internet café in Leshan’s Shawan district. On May 18, 2006 he was sentenced to fourteen years and six months in prison. He was held successively in Ya’an, Deyang (the Chuanxi Prison at Huangxu Town, from September 2010), and Aba prisons. Falun Gong-affiliated reporting describes torture during this term, including beatings, sleep deprivation, and forced wearing of heavy restraining clothing in summer heat; those accounts have no independent corroboration.

Around 2021 he was taken away again; the circumstances are not publicly documented. In May 2023, Falun Gong-affiliated media reported that he had been sentenced to three years in prison — the dates of arrest and sentencing and the underlying charge were not given — and that he had already been serving the term at Jiazhou Prison (嘉州监狱, also known as Wumaping Prison) for two years. The prisoner database lists the charge for this term as unknown and shows a database-only release-date value of 2024, which no independent source confirms. The August 2026 roster’s in-custody listing and the database’s “no further information” status leave his present whereabouts unconfirmed.
