September 8, 2026 — The Republic of China in Taiwan Ministry of National Defense reported detecting eight People’s Liberation Army aircraft, eight People’s Liberation Army Navy ships and four official ships around Taiwan during the 24-hour period ending at 6 a.m. local time on September 8.
The ministry said four of the eight aircraft entered Taiwan’s southwestern and eastern air defense identification zones. It said ROC Armed Forces monitored the activity and used combat air patrol aircraft, naval ships and coastal missile systems in response.
How to read the report
An air defense identification zone is not the same as sovereign airspace. The ministry’s daily report documents observed activity and Taiwan’s response; by itself it does not establish that a larger military exercise or immediate attack was underway.
This item is published as a concise security update based on the direct official record. Meaningful escalation should be assessed against a longer activity baseline, announced exercises, navigation warnings and corroborating maritime or aviation evidence.
