The Free China Forum (FCF) was founded in 1997 by Chinese democracy-movement organisations, scholars and students, and American human-rights organisations. As a founding member of the Free China Movement Coalition (June 1998), the Forum was the coalition’s open discussion and mobilisation arm — its page on FreeChina.net ran from March 1998. This section reconstructs what survives of that site.

What does not survive
Three parts of the Forum’s site cannot be reconstructed, and this archive records the loss rather than filling it: the press release section was never captured by any archive (the Movement’s releases are preserved in the archive’s own press-release records); the four memoranda (FMEM1116, FMEM1120, MEMO1030, MEMO1101) survive only as filenames in a directory listing — every archived copy of their contents is an empty stub; and the newsletter section survives only as directory listings, with no issue ever individually archived. The Forum’s discussion boards themselves were hosted by partner organisations and are recorded as links only.
Provenance
- Source: http://www.freechina.net/fcf/ and its sections, archived 1999–2001 (51 captures inventoried; the statement also exists in a final November 2001 version).
- Reconstructed 2026-10-23 under the FCM-ARCHIVE-UX-20261022 programme.
