Gao Zhen, age 70, is a Chinese contemporary artist and the elder member of the Gao Brothers artistic duo. Princeton University Art Museum and Human Rights Foundation records confirm the rare character 兟 in his Chinese name.
The case concerns satirical artworks about Mao Zedong and the Cultural Revolution created principally between 2005 and 2009, before the cited protection law took effect.
