Chen Changlan (陈昌兰) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Chongqing who is serving a four-and-a-half-year prison term, according to Falun Gong-affiliated reporting and a prisoners-of-conscience database record.
Ms. Chen, reported to be around 69 at the time, was arrested at home on September 16, 2022 by officers from the Jiulongpo Police Department, Minghui reported on January 14, 2024. When her family went to the Jiulongpo District Lockup to deliver clothing on September 23, guards said she was not there; they could not find her at the detention center or the police department either. The family later confirmed she was being held at the Jiulongpo District Detention Center, and that she had been sentenced to four and a half years by the Jiulongpo District Court around September 2023. Other details of her case are not clear, the report said. She was reported held at the Chongqing Women’s Prison in Jiulongpo District.
This was not her first detention. On November 6, 2004, Ms. Chen — then a resident of Jiangbei District — and fellow practitioner Ren Xiaoling were arrested while distributing Falun Gong materials in Caijia Town, Jiangjin; on November 22 they were each sentenced to a year and a half of forced labor and taken to the Maojiashan Women’s Forced Labor Camp in Chongqing, Minghui reported. In April 2010 she was arrested again after speaking with people about Falun Gong in Jiangjin District; she was later sentenced to three and a half years and held in the No. 2 Prison District of the Chongqing Women’s Prison, where a 2012 report described her as emaciated and very weak. In 2020, by then reported to be 65 and living in Jiulongpo District, she was repeatedly harassed at home by officers from the Huayan Police Station and community staff, who demanded she sign a guarantee statement renouncing her practice; a portion of her pension had also been deducted by the Social Security Bureau, Minghui reported.
A prisoners-of-conscience database (tenchu.org, Chongqing record, updated February 28, 2024) lists 陈昌兰 (Chen Changlan) as in prison with a listed release date of 2027.3.15. The Rights Defense Network’s Issue 131 roster (August 31, 2026) lists “Chen Changlan” among reported current-custody cases.
