Chen Cuizhu (陈翠珠) is a Falun Gong practitioner from Leizhou City, Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province. She was seized at home on the evening of September 8, 2022, in a coordinated operation in which fifteen practitioners were taken by officers of the Chikan District Public Security Bureau’s domestic-security brigade and four subordinate police stations. She was later tried at the Chikan District Court on May 4, 2023, while gravely ill. A rights-defense roster dated August 31, 2026 lists her among reported current-custody cases.
According to a June 18, 2023 investigation notice from the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong, officers entered Chen’s home on September 8, 2022, ransacked it, and seized 30,000 yuan in cash along with a computer, a printer, and other personal property. She was first taken to the Minzhu police station for interrogation and then moved to the Zhanjiang City Detention Center. Her case was subsequently sent to the Chikan District Procuratorate and prosecuted in the Chikan District Court.
The same notice states that Chen developed a grave illness in detention — that cancer had spread through her body and her life was in danger — and that family requests for medical parole were refused, with the authorities cited as saying she had not “transformed” and had not pleaded guilty. These are the notice’s claims and have no independent corroboration.
On May 4, 2023, Chen was brought before the Chikan District Court, described in the notice as extremely emaciated, wearing handcuffs and foot shackles that were linked together, forcing her body into an extreme bend with her head nearly touching her feet — a posture the notice says she was compelled to hold for the entire trial. No verdict or sentence from this trial has been publicly reported; the outcome is unknown.
