Feng Congde was a Peking University graduate student and a prominent organizer in the 1989 democracy movement. Contemporary and archival records connect him to the Beijing Students Autonomous Federation, including a period as federation chair, and later to the command structure at Tiananmen Square.
Late-May and June 1989 sources describe roles in finance, supplies, broadcasting and withdrawal decisions. He was listed as No. 13 on the June 1989 wanted list, remained in hiding after the crackdown and later reached France. In exile he became a long-term researcher and archivist of the movement, including work on the June Fourth Archive.
