Gao Yu is a veteran Chinese journalist and columnist whose career spans independent reporting, repeated detention and prosecution, and sustained public commentary. Amnesty International documented her 1994 six-year sentence and detention-related medical concerns. CPJ and major international media documented her disappearance and detention in 2014, a seven-year sentence in 2015, and later sentence reduction and medical-parole release. Chinese-language sources in the research baseline include state-media, independent broadcast, Taiwan public-media, oral-history and Gao-authored commentary layers.
