Hu Ping is a Chinese writer, editor and democracy advocate. Institutional and oral-history sources document his participation in the Democracy Wall era and the 1980 Haidian District People’s Congress election, his later move to the United States, and his long involvement in the overseas Chinese democracy movement.
Beijing Spring records Hu as chief writer from 1993 to 1996 and chief editor from 1996, and identifies him as a former president of the Chinese Alliance for Democracy and of China Spring. The University of Vienna’s Beijing Spring Oral History Project records his move to Harvard in 1987 and subsequent editorial work with China Spring and Beijing Spring. An academic-publisher author record also identifies him with Beijing Spring and Human Rights in China.
