Li Chunfu (李春富), born in 1972, is a Chinese rights-defense lawyer and the younger brother of lawyer Li Heping. He was taken into custody in August 2015 during the nationwide crackdown on rights lawyers and legal advocates commonly known as the 709 Crackdown.
709 detention and release
Human Rights in China records that Li was released on bail in January 2017 after roughly eighteen months in secret detention. Accounts from family members published at the time described severe fear, weight loss and apparent psychological trauma after his return. Human Rights Watch subsequently reported serious mental-health effects and allegations of torture or other mistreatment. These abuse allegations are preserved as attributed claims rather than presented as independently proven facts.
Post-release record
Later reporting documented continued restrictions after his release, including an exit-control episode in 2019. Public 709-anniversary materials in 2025 also continued to identify Li Chunfu as a surviving 709 lawyer and participant in documentation of the crackdown.
