Tang Jitian (唐吉田) is a Chinese human-rights lawyer known for representing politically sensitive and rights-related cases. Chinese authorities revoked his lawyer’s license in 2010. In later years he faced repeated travel restrictions, surveillance, disappearance and detention concerns.
Detention and restrictions
Rights groups documented repeated restrictions on Tang’s movement and professional activity. After disappearing in December 2021, he remained incommunicado for an extended period. Reporting by rights organizations said he was released on January 14, 2023. Older descriptions of him as disappeared or detained are therefore preserved as dated history and are not treated as his current custody status.
Post-release activity
Public reporting in 2024 and 2025 described Tang continuing legal and rights-related activity while facing movement and administrative restrictions. In 2025, ChinaAid reported that Tang challenged the refusal of a company-registration application and sought disclosure concerning an alleged investor blocklist. These later activities support the released/not-currently-known-imprisoned classification, but do not establish that travel restrictions, surveillance, licensing restrictions or other controls have ended.
