Wang Jinbo / 王金波

Wang Jinbo / 王金波 is a Chinese democracy activist whose case became associated with political Internet writing and the China Democracy Party.

Arrest, sentence and release

Contemporaneous and rights-reporting sources establish that Wang was arrested on May 9, 2001. On December 13, 2001, he was sentenced to four years in prison for political Internet writings. His release was reported in May 2005; the exact release day and appeal disposition remain primary-record targets.

China Democracy Party connection

Wang’s participation in China Democracy Party activity is supported, but his formal membership should remain qualified. Contemporaneous Radio Free Asia reporting recorded a dispute: his father denied that Wang was a formal member, while Zhou Jianhe described him as peripheral, even though other sources labeled him a member. This profile therefore does not present formal membership as uncontested fact.

Evidence status

The current research baseline includes contemporaneous Radio Free Asia Mandarin and Cantonese reporting, Committee to Protect Journalists, Amnesty International, Reporters Without Borders, and later legal synthesis. Important primary-source gaps include original 1998–1999 participation or membership records, the 2001 arrest and indictment records, the judgment and appeal, the exact May 2005 release record, and the writings or emails cited in the case.

Research note

The contemporaneous membership dispute is preserved rather than overwritten by later labels. Custody and release dates are stated only to the level supported by the available evidence.
