Wang Yu (王宇) — Human-Rights Lawyer and 709 Crackdown Survivor

Wang Yu (王宇) is a Chinese human-rights lawyer and one of the central figures targeted at the beginning of the July 2015 “709” crackdown.

Current status

Wang is released and is not currently recorded as serving a criminal prison sentence. Rights Defense Network reported that on March 27, 2026 she was taken away by Beijing police during the Yu Kai-related lawyer incident; a March 28 update reported that Wang Yu had left the police station. P1 therefore records this as a dated temporary police-control event rather than current imprisonment.

Older sources document surveillance, movement/passport restrictions and professional pressure. Those restrictions are preserved as dated evidence and are not automatically projected at the same intensity into September 2026.
