Identity and release
Ezra Jin Mingri founded Zion Church in Beijing in 2007. The Congressional-Executive Commission on China describes Zion Church as one of China’s largest and most influential unregistered Protestant churches.
CECC reports that authorities detained Jin during the nationwide crackdown on Zion Church that began in October 2025. China Monitor #7 states that the PRC released him in July 2026 and allowed him to reunite with his family in the United States. CECC Co-Chair Representative Chris Smith publicly welcomed the release on July 5, 2026.

CECC reported on August 20, 2026 that eight Zion Church members remained in custody at Beihai No. 1 and No. 2 Public Security Bureau Detention Centers in Yinhai District, Beihai, Guangxi:
