Chen Ding / 陈定 — Media Profile & Archive

This archive accompanies the canonical profile of Chen Ding / 陈定, a Changsha Railway Academy student whose 1989 case was documented in contemporary Hunan human-rights reporting.

Documented case

Human Rights in China’s contemporary Hunan documentation identifies Chen Ding as the younger brother of Xiangtan Electrical Machinery Factory worker Chen Gang. It reports that Chen Ding received a one-year sentence for counterrevolutionary propaganda and incitement after exhorting workers to strike. Chen Gang was later arrested while calling for justice for his younger brother.

Source conflict

A later secondary account compresses Chen Ding into a hooliganism case involving workers from the Xiangtan Electrical Machinery Factory. The more detailed contemporary account describes Chen Ding’s prosecution separately. This archive therefore preserves the conflict rather than treating him as a co-defendant in that separate workers’ case.

Status caution

The one-year sentence is documented, but no specific release record has been established in the reviewed evidence. A nominal sentence-expiry date is not treated as proof of release, and later whereabouts remain unknown.

Related people

Chen Gang was Chen Ding’s older brother. Chen Gang, Peng Shi, Liu Jian and Liu Zhihua were workers associated with the separate Xiangtan Electrical Machinery Factory prosecution.
