Chen Xiulian (陈秀莲) — Media Profile & Archive

This page is the media and source archive for Chen Xiulian (陈秀莲). For the biographical profile, see Chen Xiulian (陈秀莲) (person profile).

Source chronology

  • May–June 2023 — arrest. Minghui reported that Chen Xiulian was captured on surveillance cameras distributing Falun Gong materials in May 2023, was tracked by local police, and was taken into custody on June 1, 2023, with her home searched. She spent roughly two months in the Maoming City Detention Center before her whereabouts became unknown.
  • October 25, 2024 — Minghui report. “广东化州市法轮功学员陈秀莲被冤判四年半” (Minghui Guangdong correspondent) reported that she had been sentenced to four and a half years with a 10,000-yuan fine, describing the proceeding as a secret, back-room handling by the authorities. The same article places her case in a wider Maoming-area pattern: more than 80 Falun Gong practitioners prosecuted and sentenced on referrals approved by the Maoming procuratorate over 25 years, five deaths in custody from Maoming-area sentences (Liang Jinchun, Zheng Bao, Liang Loutu, Wu Zuqiang, Wu Minglu), and at least seven repeat convictions.
  • November 21, 2024 — CHRD database entry. The Chinese Human Rights Defenders prisoners-of-conscience database (record poc_c_00484) consolidated the case: female, from Huazhou, Guangdong; charge listed as “unknown”; sentence 4 years 6 months; held at Guangdong Provincial Women’s Prison; sentence ends 2027-11-30; status “in prison.” Cited source: the Minghui article above.
  • August 31, 2026 — 维权网 Issue 131. The Rights Defense Network monthly report’s in-custody name index lists “Chen Xiulian,” consistent with continued detention through at least that date. (Since Issue 101, the monthly reports omit biographies for cases with no new information and refer readers to the CHRD database.)

Provenance and grading

  • The Minghui article is the only narrative report of the arrest and sentencing. Minghui is affiliated with Falun Gong practitioners; its factual claims (dates, sentence length, fine, detention sequence) are presented as reported facts and have not been independently verified against court records. Its evaluative language (e.g., characterizing the arrest and sentencing as illegal) reflects the outlet’s perspective and should be read as such.
  • The CHRD database is an independent human-rights NGO record; it reproduces and structures the Minghui-sourced facts and adds the custody-location and sentence-end details. Its entry is the strongest single source for her current recorded status.
  • The 维权网 name index corroborates only that she was counted among reported in-custody political prisoners/prisoners of conscience in August 2026; it provides no independent case detail.

Conflicts and limitations

  • No conflict found between the sources; they form a single evidence lineage (Minghui → CHRD, with 维权网 confirming continued in-custody status).
  • Unknowns: exact criminal charge; sentencing court and date; custody location after November 2024; date of birth/age; health and family status; whether an appeal was filed. None of these should be asserted without new evidence.
  • No video, photo, court document, or family statement has been located.
