Cheng Qiaoyun — Media Profile & Archive

Media Profile & Archive — Cheng Qiaoyun. This archive preserves the source chronology, provenance, and evidentiary limits of the reporting behind her Person Profile. It supports Cheng Qiaoyun.

Person profile

Cheng Qiaoyun — female Falun Gong practitioner, Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. Profile covers: the 2002–2004 two-year imprisonment, the denied release and subsequent brainwashing-class detention and torture after her term expired on May 27, 2004; the July 12, 2022 mass-sweep arrest; the eight-year sentence and April 20, 2023 transfer to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison; the family’s account of receiving no formal verdict and a demanded 50,000-yuan fine; and the August 31, 2026 roster listing. The 2004 ↔ 2022/2023 identity linkage is presented as probable, not established.

Source chronology

  • 2002 – May 27, 2004 — Clearwisdom.net, republished Minghui.org (“Practitioner Ms. Cheng Qiaoyun Is Tortured to the Point of Mental Collapse,” August 30, 2004). Cheng Qiaoyun, living at the No. 9 Oil Extraction Plant in Daqing City and employed by Jiulong Corporation, was sentenced to two years in prison for her belief in Falun Dafa. Her term expired on May 27, 2004; when her brother went to collect her, he was turned away.
  • After May 27, 2004 — same report. Zhang Guojun and Liu Xiping, officers of the Daqing City “610 Office,” together with Jiulong Corporation secretaries Li Xiuen and Liu Xinglin, subsidiary party secretary Zhang Jianguo, and labor-union officers Han Yuhui and Xu Guohua, abducted Cheng and sent her to the Hongweixing Brainwashing Class in Daqing. She was then sent to a detention center for fifteen days and brought back to the class. The report states she was tortured repeatedly to the point of near death, taken to hospital for several days of emergency treatment, then returned to the class and tortured again. About forty days later her mind became unclear; she ate sand-mixed rice without noticing, did not speak, could not sleep through the night; her hands were beaten and severely injured; she became unable to walk and was taken away by a police officer. Her whereabouts were unknown at the time of the report.
  • July 12, 2023 (sic — July 12, 2022) — Minghui.org (“Two Heilongjiang Women Imprisoned for Their Faith,” June 7, 2023). Cheng Qiaoyun, described as around 63, and Du Chunxiang, around 65, were arrested on July 12, 2022 during a police sweep of at least 135 Falun Gong practitioners in Daqing; another 89 practitioners were harassed and 156 had homes ransacked. A police officer said the authorities had followed and video-recorded the practitioners from about nine months before the operation.
  • Before June 2023 — same report. Cheng was later sentenced to eight years and Du to four; details of the sentencing are not clear. On April 20, 2023 both women were taken to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison. Cheng’s family never received a formal verdict; they received express mail containing four sheets of paper indicating her sentence, bearing only a signature reading “Officer Hong” and a court seal, without any prosecutor, judge, or other officers named. The family also received a text message asking them to pay a 50,000-yuan court fine, which they refused.
  • August 31, 2026 — Rights Defense Network / 维权网, Issue 131 monthly report (English edition). Lists “Cheng Qiaoyun” among reported current-custody cases. The report’s sentence-group placement for her entry was not confirmed from the report itself; the roster asserts only that she appears in its in-custody listing.

Source grading

  • Clearwisdom/Minghui reports (2004, 2023) — Falun Gong-affiliated outlets; the only sources with case detail across both episodes. Medium for dated events (sentences, arrests, transfers, the post-2004 abduction sequence); the torture accounts, the denied release, the brainwashing-class sequence, the missing-verdict account, and the fine demand are the outlets’ claims only, with no independent corroboration from court records, police statements, or non-affiliated media. Their advocacy framing is not adopted in the Person body.
  • Issue 131 report (English edition) — the roster source; primary for the roster equation. High for the name listing and the August 31, 2026 in-custody classification; provides no case detail beyond the listing.

Conflicts and caveats

  • The 2004 ↔ 2022/2023 identity linkage is PROBABLE on convergent anchors (name, Daqing, Falun Gong, consistent age) but is not directly asserted by any source. It must not be presented as established fact; the Person body discloses the inference.
  • The 2004 report left her whereabouts unknown; no report documents the intervening years 2004–2022. Nothing is asserted about what happened to her in that interval.
  • No court judgment, verdict document, sentencing date, or sentencing court was located for the eight-year sentence. The Person body asserts the sentence length as reported but no date, court, or issuing authority.
  • The four-sheet “Officer Hong” mail and the 50,000-yuan fine demand are the family’s account as relayed by Minghui; the outlet’s account of who signed, sealed, and sent them is uncorroborated.
  • The candidate is distinct from every other Cheng entry in the Issue 131 roster and must not be merged with any of them — in particular not with Cheng Mingjuan (M218), who is from Changchun, Jilin.

Evidentiary limits

No court judgment, police record, official Chinese government statement, or non-affiliated media report was located for either episode. The detailed case record rests on two Falun Gong-affiliated reports (2004 and 2023); the roster listing is the only other dated source. Her Chinese-character name, the sentencing court and date, the whereabouts between 2004 and 2022, and her present condition are all undocumented.
