Person profile: Chu Jidong (褚继东)

Media Profile & Archive — Chu Jidong (褚继东). This archive preserves the source chronology, provenance, conflicts, and evidentiary limits of the reporting behind his Person Profile. It supports Chu Jidong (褚继东).

Person profile

Chu Jidong (褚继东) — male Falun Gong practitioner, Tianjin native, pipeline-administration employee. Profile covers: the April 2022 thirteen-year sentence; the Yinchuan City Detention Center hunger strike and force-feeding (May 2022); the earlier three-year forced-labor term and post-term transfer to a brainwashing center; the Shizuishan Prison abuse sequence (strict management, sleep deprivation, forced sitting on small stools, including one with nearly 60 nails); his protest by shouting slogans; and the conflicting reports on his prison location. The Person body records the arrest-date discrepancy explicitly rather than resolving it.

Source chronology

  • Early 2000s (reported May 4, 2022). Chu was given three years of forced labor. When the term ended, the Shuangkou Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin refused to release him and sent him straight to a brainwashing center.
  • March 2021 — Minghui.org (reported January 8, 2023). While working a night shift in Qingyang, Gansu, Chu was severely injured after a thief hit him on the head with a brick. Heading back to Tianjin to recover, he was stopped by Yinchuan airport police, who found a Falun Gong electronic book on his cellphone; the police database showed his prior labor-camp term, and he was arrested. (See arrest-date conflict below.)
  • ~January 2022 — Minghui.org (reported June 13, 2023). Chu was arrested around January 2022 and admitted to the Yinchuan City Detention Center. (See arrest-date conflict below.)
  • April 2022 — Minghui.org (reported May 4, 2022 and June 13, 2023); daiphap sentencing register (April 2022). Chu was sentenced to 13 years by a court in Yinchuan. The register lists 褚继东 / Chu Jidong, Male, Ningxia / Yinchuan, 2022 April, 13 years.
  • May 4, 2022 — Minghui.org. Chu was reported held at the Yinchuan City Detention Center, on hunger strike for at least 90 days and repeatedly force-fed. The report notes his wife did not work and their son was still in elementary school, leaving the family in deep distress.
  • April 30, 2025 — Minghui.org, “The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Shizuishan Prison.” While serving time at Shizuishan Prison, Chu was subjected to strict management, deprived of sleep, and forced to sit on small stools for long hours daily (one slanted-surface type, one with nearly 60 nails). He protested by shouting “Falun Dafa is good; Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance is good.” Authorities transferred him to another prison and refused to tell his family where.
  • April 14, 2026 — Minghui.org, “More on the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in the 16th Division of Ningxia’s Shizuishan Prison.” “At least seven practitioners are still being held in the 16th division at the time of this writing, including … Mr. Chu Jidong (13 years).” (See location conflict below.)

Source grading

  • Minghui.org, May 4, 2022 (primary sentence report). Falun Gong-affiliated outlet; the first and most detailed report of the sentence, hunger strike, force-feeding, and the forced-labor backstory. Medium-high for the sentence and detention events; its legal characterizations are advocacy framing and are not adopted.
  • Minghui.org, January 8, 2023 (2022 sentencing summary). Corroborates the 13-year sentence, occupation, Qingyang injury, and airport arrest sequence. Medium-high.
  • Minghui.org, June 13, 2023 (Ningxia detention survey). Corroborates the 13-year sentence and adds the January 2022 arrest timing and the January 2035 release estimate (source arithmetic). Medium-high.
  • Minghui.org, April 30, 2025 (Shizuishan Prison report). The only source for the prison-abuse sequence, stool details, protest, and the transfer to an undisclosed prison. Medium for those events — the specific abuse details (nail-studded stool, shouting of slogans) are the report’s claims with no independent corroboration.
  • Minghui.org, April 14, 2026 (16th Division follow-up). The only source for the 2026 16th Division listing. Medium; conflicts with the 2025 transfer report.
  • Daiphap / Minghui sentencing register, April 2022 (PDF). High for the Chinese-character name, sex, province/city, sentence month, and term — structured tabular data consistent with the narrative reports.

Conflicts and caveats

  • Arrest date (UNRESOLVED). The January 2023 sentencing summary reports a March 2021 airport arrest; the June 2023 Ningxia detention survey reports an arrest around January 2022 with admission to the Yinchuan City Detention Center. Both are Minghui-sourced. Possible reconciliations (detention in March 2021 followed by release and re-arrest, or a reporting error) are unverifiable from the sources. The Person body presents both as reported.
  • Prison location (UNRESOLVED). The April 2025 report states Chu was transferred from Shizuishan Prison to another prison whose location was withheld from his family. The April 2026 report lists him among practitioners “still being held in the 16th division” of Shizuishan Prison “at the time of this writing.” Unresolved: he may have been transferred back, or one report may be incomplete or mistaken. Current custody location is not stated as fact.
  • Release timing. “Set to be released in January 2035” (June 2023 survey) is arithmetic from the April 2022 sentence, not an independently verified fact; sentence reductions or extensions are unreported.
  • Abuse details. The nail-studded stool, sleep deprivation, and slogan-shouting protest are reported only in the April 2025 article; no second source.
  • Family details. Wife not working and elementary-school-age son are reported only in the January 2023 article; dates may have shifted since.

Do-not-merge register

  • Any other 褚/楚/初/储 surname entry in the custody rosters — no namesake located, but the Chinese-form variants searched (楚继东, 初继东, 储继东) returned no matching source and must not be used.
