Dong Yaoqiong (董瑶琼), also known as the “Ink Girl” (泼墨女孩), is a woman from Hunan Province whose July 4, 2018 protest in Shanghai drew widespread reporting.
Radio Free Asia and other outlets reported that she livestreamed herself splashing ink on a poster of Xi Jinping in Shanghai and was detained soon afterward. Subsequent reporting said she was repeatedly confined in psychiatric institutions. Human Rights Watch later noted her disappearance in its reporting on China.
Public information about Dong’s whereabouts remains limited. Radio Free Asia reported in July 2024 that her whereabouts were unknown. Safeguard Defenders wrote in September 2025 that no reliable public information had emerged since her reported return to Zhuzhou No. 3 Hospital in 2021. FreeChina.live therefore does not state that she is currently in prison or in any specific facility.
