Gong Yujian / 龚与剑 — Media Profile & Archive

This archive preserves the evidence for Gong Yujian’s 1989/1994 Hunan case and the later Taiwan asylum episode while keeping the identity linkage appropriately qualified.

Radio Free Asia, 2015

Radio Free Asia reported in August 2015 that Gong Yujian, then 38, had received two years of reeducation through labor in 1994 for activity connected to the 1989 democracy movement. RFA also reported that he arrived in Taiwan on July 22, 2015, declined his scheduled return flight on August 6, sought political asylum, and that Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council rejected the application on August 26.

Yiyang “824” historical record

Later Hunan histories describe five middle-school students posting anti-crackdown slogans in Yiyang on August 24, 1989. A detailed account says Gong was identified years later through handwriting comparison and sent to two years of reeducation through labor in 1994. The age, date and sanction align closely with the RFA biography, making the linkage high-probability rather than conclusively established by one primary record.

Open record gaps

The exact administrative-detention record, facility and release date remain unlocated. A reported abuse allegation rests on a single narrative lineage. Gong’s whereabouts and status after the 2015 Taiwan episode have not been reliably established.
