Han Yanlei / 韩燕雷

Han Yanlei (韩燕雷) is a teacher from Wuhu, Anhui Province, reported to be associated with Mount Carmel Church and Xuande School. His current custody status is disputed in the available record.

2021 arrests

Minsheng Guancha, ChinaAid and Christian media reported that authorities raided Xuande School on May 27, 2021. Han Yanlei, Wan Hongxia and Xie Zhifeng were taken away, while Wang Minghai was arrested at the hospital where he worked. The four were criminally detained on suspicion of “illegal business operations” and formally arrested later that year.

Han Yanlei and Xie Zhifeng were released on bail on February 28, 2022.

2024 trial and verdict

Minsheng Guancha and ChinaAid reported that Han, Xie Zhifeng and Lü Zhaojin were tried by the Yijiang District People’s Court on August 1, 2024. ChinaAid reported that on August 16 Han and Xie were each sentenced to nine months in prison and fined 5,000 yuan. Because they had already spent about nine months in detention in 2021–2022, they reportedly returned home on the verdict day.

Status conflict

Rights Defense Network Issue 131, dated August 31, 2026, nevertheless lists “Han Yanlei” among reported in-custody cases in its Anhui group. No re-detention after August 2024 was found. This profile therefore does not state either current custody or current freedom as independently confirmed fact; it preserves the conflict between the 2026 roster and the latest detailed case reporting.

Identity note

International Christian Concern used the name “Han Xuelei” for the fourth teacher in the same raid. The Chinese-language case reporting confirms 韩燕雷, and the shared co-defendants, dates and locality support treating “Han Xuelei” as a transliteration variant rather than a separate person.
