Hu Yong (胡勇) is reported to be a member of the South China Church, an unregistered Protestant church network in Hubei Province. Rights Defense Network Issue 131, dated August 31, 2026, lists him among reported life-imprisonment cases.
South China Church case
Historical Christian-media and advocacy reporting identifies Hu Yong among defendants prosecuted with church founder Gong Shengliang and co-defendants Xu Fuming, Li Ying and Gong Bangkun. Reports state that the defendants received death sentences in 2001 and that higher-court action later overturned those sentences.
Acts News Network reported that an October 2002 retrial convicted Gong Shengliang, Xu Fuming and Hu Yong of intentional assault and imposed life sentences. A South China Church leaders’ letter published by ChinaAid likewise states that death sentences were changed to life imprisonment and reports that the prisoners were sent to Jingzhou Prison at that time.
Status and evidence limits
The Jingzhou Prison reference dates to 2004 and is not presented as Hu’s current facility. No current prison, health, age or personal details were located. No public official judgment was found in the prepared record.
